Our Moove Friends

Mela, just outside of Cortez, Colorado
Mela, Ailsa and Henry:
Mela, Ailsa and Henry awoke in a heavily loaded wagon full of lumber just as it stopped on the site of the old cattle roundup ground.
The three weary friends climbed out and thanked the old driver who seemed to be right out of an old Western movie. Little did they know that it was not the old driver that was out of place... but them.
It was 1886 and the lumber in the wagon was to be used on the construction of the first buildings for the town of Cortez which had been laid out by M.J. Mack, engineer for the Montezuma Valley Water Supply Company on land owned by J.W. Hanna, the company’s president.
Unlike many towns which formed around a river or transportation network, Cortez was going to be built to house the men who would complete the elaborate network of tunnels, irrigation ditches, and laterals required to divert water out of the Dolores River and into the dry Montezuma Valley. The idea of a town in the Valley was born out of speculation that the sandy red soil would produce a wide variety of abundant crops. The three Avatars had no idea that they had escaped from the "Artifact Looters" into the year 1886. They were in the wild West.

Do you think Tory will be able to find us here", Ailsa asked. "Tory has a third eye or some weird thing that keeps her from getting lost", Mela replied. Mela was worried but did not show it. Tory had simply vanished from their booth at the show in Durango and Mela was unsure if she had poofed back to Moove or was Torynapped or had gone alone to hide the Bean Tree. One moment, she was sitting and laughing and then she was gone.
When the three friends returned to the Hotel, the Bean Tree was gone but Tory's luggage and personal things were still there. They were unaware that Tory had not taken the valuable Bean Tree, but that it was taken by One Eye while they were at the theater.

Ailsa near Mesa Verde, Colorado

Mela was glad that Tory had missed going to Mesa Verde, Always protective of her, Mela knew Tory had been through a great deal over the past Summer; the jeep crash, discovering that Big Baby was her Dad, and the forcing of the Bean Tree upon the Moove Angel. Mela knew that the last thing Tory needed was to be held captive by artifact looters in a dark deep hole.
At first, Mela, Ailsa and Henry did not know that the kind "tourists" at the historic village were from Blanding Utah and were not tourists at all. Hired by wealthy foreign government officials, the four men were at Mesa Verde to loot and pillage the centuries old treasures. It was not until Henry discovered the Range Rover hidden behind a pinyon tree filled with pots, ceramics, blankets, skulls and other antiquities, that they began to realize the four men were not all they appeared to be.
Things turned for the worse when Ailsa was caught eavesdropping on the four men as they drank Mountain Dew and discussed how much money they could get from the Range Rover full of

Henry waving to the two "Tourist Abducters"
treasures. Ailsa learned (before she was caught) that the men were part of the "Mountain Dew" gang founded by Earl (Shumway), a notorious looter of Southwest artifacts who once bragged to authorities that he had been robbing graves since he was 3.
Earl was convicted in 1995 under the Archaeological Resources Protection Act of 1979, but what the authorities did not know was that Earl was not working alone.
The four men being spied on by Ailsa were just a small number of the "Mountain Dew" gang which was operating throughout the Southwest United States at the bequest of a consortium of "unknown" foreign officials.
Ailsa started to creep away, her hand brushing against a loose rock on the cave wall. The rock fell loose hitting the dirt and rock floor with a thud. The four men stopped talking, and Ailsa darted as fast as she could to the entry. "GET HER", one of the men shouted and all four ran after Ailsa, catching and tackling her just as she saw the daylight coming through the entry.

Searching for a way out of the hole

"GO GET THE OTHER TWO CARTOONS", the biggest of the four men hollered as picked up Ailsa and shoved her against the wall. The other three men ran out the entry to find Mela and Henry.
Mela was captured first as she sat under an overhang in the shade and was taken to where Ailsa had been grabbed.
Henry was further away near one of the dwellings when he spotted two of the four "tourists", not knowing that the two men were there to abduct him.
Henry waved at them and they waved back and approached him. "I think I have found one of the.....................Henry did not get to finish the sentence. As he bent over to point out a peculiararity on a fragment of broken pottery, a rock smashed into the back of his head knocking him cold. The two men dragged the limp Henry to the hole that all three of the Moove avatars would call home for the next three days.
When Henry awoke, he saw Mela and Ailsa leaning over him and his head hurt something awful. He had been unconscious for 32 hours, during which Mela and Ailsa had explored the hole

The Petroglyph Chant
where they had been tossed. They had found some sort of petroglyph that Mela believed was a chant.
After exchanging hugs and making sure Henry was not brain damaged, the girls took Henry to the petroglyph.
"I think it is an ancient chant", Mela told Henry. We have tried it, but nothing has happened", she continued. "See this?" Mela pointed to a strange figure drawn to show that it was speaking. "I think it has to be a male warrior who speaks the chant,", Mela explained.
Henry looked at Mela, "do you want me to try". Mela nodded. Henry walked up to the petroglyph, placed his hand on the wall and closed his eyes. Soon an ancient warrior song began to come from Henrys mouth - a beautiful, melancholy tune that echoed off the walls.
As the chant wafted through the hole in the gound, the ground began to shake but no rocks or dirt fell from the ceiling. It was not like an earthqauke, but more like someone jiggling a camera.

The Flat Panel Vision

The petroglyph began to glow and transformed into what looked like a really great flat panel television. The three Avatars felt as if they were being pulled into the flat panel vision.
Ailsa was the first to discover that the feeling was correct as she pixelated and was pulled into the vision.
Henry and Mela followed a second later. The flat panel vision ended and the hole was quiet and dark once again.
The vision that surrounded the three friends lasted for only a few seconds but each of them saw the four Ute elders swirling around them in a blur of colors. When the swirling stopped, they found themselves at the edge of a dirt road near Cortez, Colorado. It was on this road where they met the old driver hauling the lumber - catching a free ride to 1886.

Mela, Henry and Ailsa rested beneath a tree not far from where the old man had dropped them off in 1886. "Does something feel kind of wierd or not quiet right", Ailsa asked her friends. Henry and Mela both agreed that there was a defintie wind of wierdness blowing. "Sure wish Tory was here", Mela softly said and the three travelers got up and headed South back to Mesa Verde.
