Spring has Sprung (Banff)
by Crystal Angel Fashion Editor As we were flying to Howell, Michigan to
see Matti's Boutique Spring Show, we received
a message on Angels Blackberry alerting us
the show for Matti had been moved to Banff,
Alberta. Chuckie the Pilot turned Angel One around
and we zoomed off to the gorgeous Northwest
section of Canada, a place I had never been
to before. While Angel worked on finding us hotel rooms
and luxury transportation, and Mela sat in
the co-pilot seat making eyes at Chuckie,
I worked on this article until I dozed off
and dreamed of riding horses in the Banff
forests with my Angel. We arrived at the Calgary Airport quite late
and after going through customs (for some
reason, Airport Security felt Mela was a
risk) found our stylin Limo and settled in
for the 90 minute drive on the Trans-Canada
Highway 1 to Banff. I would have loved to
have seen the scenery but alas, it was dark
and with the exception of a twinkling light
here and there, the only thing to see was
the star-filled sky through the sunroof on the limo. We finally arrived at The Rimrock Resort
Hotel, a massive seven story building with
almost 350 rooms nestled in the spectacular
Banff National Park. The sweet lady at the
check-in asked us if we were with the Fashion
extravaganza and told us a rocking party
was happening in the Elk Horn room on the
7th floor. Mela, Angel and I found our rooms and quickly
changed. All three of us needed to blow off
some steam and dancing the night away seemed
the prescription the three of us needed. Angel chose to wear Matti's Rose Tube Top
with matching slack with evening gloves and
a black bowtie by Lita, while Mela decided
on a oh-so-tiny ultra mini and Angel's standard
silk blouse. I chose to wear one of Matti's
designs, the white leather top and slacks
with evening gloves and a pair of C@ndi's
knee high boots. I must say, the three of
us were darn hot looking. (continued below)
Matti's pre-show party was unbelievable.
Upon entering the packed room, a band I had
never heard of was performing a Bad Company
song and the crowd was hopping and jumping
like a bunch of crazed Easter Bunnies. I
grabbed Angels hand and went to hold Melas
in my other hand, but she was gone. We found
out later, Mela had recognized one of her
past boyfriends in the crowd and bee-lined
to the dance floor. Angel and I were making our way to the bar
for a drink when Matti saw us and after the
customary Moove hugs took us to a private
table where we could watch the whole room
rock. Matti told us everything was on the
house and supplied us with our own private
concierge who kept our drinks full.
Angel and I danced some, but mostly we sat
and pointed out the celebrities in the crowd.
Matti had requested we do not photograph
during the party due to privacy issues, but
Angel could not resist taking a quick pic
of Paris Hilton putting something in her
nose. As the flash went off, Paris approached
our table and began screaming at Angel and
I; and I was afraid a fight might break out,
but Matti had security remove the screaming
diva, dragging her by her arms out the door. It was too funny. Angel and I left the party around 2:30 am
and headed back to our room and laid out
the outfits we had planned to wear at the
Fashion Show the next morning. I slept like
a baby in the huge California king-sized
bed and awoke at 6:00 am the next morning.
Angel I spent the day walking along the shore
of Lake Louise and quietly soaked up the
beauty that this special place had been blessed
with. Matti's show had been sold out for months
ahead of time, and as is the custom for editors
and publishers of the top fashion magazines,
we were honored to have seats in the VIP
section with the publishers of Harpers, Cosmopoliton
and Vogue. I have known Anna Wintour (Vogue
Fashion editor) for years and was glad I
got to sit beside her as I have not seen
her since we launched the Crystal Angel. I wore a red velvet maxi with matching top
and Angel decided on the purple silk maxi
with a halter top. Matti's show began with smoke billowing out
of the runway, music by REM and her totally
hot lingerie line - which by coincidence, the first design
(the Diamond Lingerie Set) I was wearing. By beginning her show with
her unique lingerie line, Matti had grabbed
the crowds attention as well as sending a
warning message to Victorias Secret that
Matti was tired of hearing about what she
considers is a second rate competitor. The lingerie portion of the show included
"Red Hots", Black Rosie Panty Set,
Black Pinky Corset Set, Purple Satin Set,
Pink & Black Corset Set, Silvery Panty
& Skirt Set, Orangesicles, and her Pink
Bows Suit. The star of the lingerie part
of the show was Matti's Turquoise Gems panty
set - a yummy deep turquoise set with a leaf
design covering the rump and made from the
finest lace. Matti followed the lingerie with her popular silk and satin collection; a wonderful collection of skirt and top
sets in understated muted colors. Matti's
satin and silk sets are simply irrestible
and are all made by hand which gives each
outift a unique and original feel. Each of
Matti's outfits has the name of the person
who hand-crafted it hidden somewhere in the
design. The audience, including Angel, Mela and I
fell in love with the Golden Oriental Set,
the Olive Satin Set and the Powder Blue Satin Set.
My fav was the Golden Oriental while Angel
went cuckoo over the Peacock Silk Set and
Mela was drooling over the Satin Flowers
Set. There is something about silk and satin
that makes me want to purrrrr and the whole
collection was a hit with the crowd. After showing her Skirt and Top sets , her Hot Wear Collection and a selection of her new hair styles, Matti closed her show with her Blue Sets - a new line of fashion in the a variety
of blues. Blue in all shades is a major hot
color for Spring and Matti is setting the
standard for style in colors ranging from
Midnight Blue to Baby Blue and all shades
in between. My fav in the Blue Line was the Aqua Silk
Set while both Mela and Angel fell in love
with the Blue Toxic Set. The audience seemed
to love them all as they gave Matti a standing
ovastion that lasted nearly 20 minutes while
balloons and confetti fell from the cieling.
I felt like I was at a New Years Eve Party.
Matti closed the evening by surprising the
crowd by bringing out REM to rock the night
away, while Jello shots were pounded down
in record numbers. As Angel and I needed to get up early to
head down to Myrtle Beach to see Dark Embrace,
we left before midnight, leaving Mela dancing
with J-Lo and a midget named Bernie. I was
asleep before 1:00 am.
