Spring has Sprung (Myrtle Beach)
by Crystal Angel Fashion Editor Just after take-off from Calgary, we noticed
we had lost Mela, who we had not seen since
the pre-show party when she was dancing the
night away with Bernie the midget. We knew
we could not turn back and we had no cell
phone reception at 30,000 feet, so Angel
and I just hoped and prayed that Mela was
doing okay.
""She is a big girl, knows my Blackberry
number and knows our itinerary", Angel
reassured me. I pretended to act like I was
not concerned, but I was just a tiny bit
worried about our friend. We touched down at the Airport around 2:00
pm the day of the show and Dark Embrace had our Limo waiting, stocked full of Skittles,
Oreos and other goodies. Dark Embrace always
treats Angel and I as royalty and frankly,
we love it. We had left all the arrangements for our
trip to Myrtle Beach in the hands of Dark
Embrace and she dialed us up in grand fashion
at the Sheraton Broadway Plantation. Framed
by towering sweet gum trees, Sheraton Broadway
Plantation gives a feeling of seclusion.
Yet you`re right in the heart of all the
action - just across the street from famed
Broadway at the Beach and approximately one
mile from the ocean Dark Embrace told us she would be back around
7:30 that evening to pick us up for her show
so Angel and I began trying to track down
Mela. Angel was finally able to get through on
Mela's cell phone and were relieved to know
Mela was safe.....well kinda. She had thought
were said we were going to Turtle Beach and
she hired a charter to fly her more than
a thousand miles to Turtle Beach Lodge in
Tortuguero, Costa Rica.
We were cracking
up laughing
so hard. Mela
said she would
join us before
we left South
Carolina for
New Zealand
but decided to enjoy
the warm weather
and hospitality
of the locals
in Costa Rica. After a wonderful lunch in the café next
door, Angel and I walked along the golf course
down to the private beach connected to the
hotel. It was wonderfully quiet and we discussed
our curiosity at what might lay in store
tonight at Dark Embraces Spring Show. Dark Embrace not only designs some of the
most desired outfits in Moove, her popular
web site offers tips, classes and information
for designer wanna-bees. Dark Embrace's design
house Dark and Deadly Designs offers links to a variety of useful sites
for designers of any level - and is easy
to navigate to boot. Angel and I accidently left the private beach
area and wandered onto a public beach and
OMG. It was like a bunch of sardines packed
up in coconut oil and sand. "I am glad
we are rich", Angel chuckled. "Me
too", I replied. We walked along the beach and browsed the
shops until sunset and got back to the hotel
with an hour to spare before we were to meet
Dark Embrace.
This would
be the hardest
night to decide
what outfit
to wear as
neither Angel nor
I had any of
the new line
of designs which
were to be
shown at the
show. Dark Embrace
is a marketing
genius and
by keeping her
designs under wraps until the last minute, the buzz builds to
a deafening roar. Angel and I both decided that black would
be a safe bet for the crowd at the show and
Angel decided on her self-designed black beaded
top and a matching skirt while I chose a
sheer body suit made by my Auntie Michelle
and a mini in matching black.. Dark Embrace arrived promptly at 7:30 in
a stunning white limo owned by Virtual Designers
World and we were off to Planet Hollywood
which Dark Embrace had rented for her Spring
Fashion Show. After pouring us each a small
galss of Cognac, we were off. Dark Embrace warned us on the way to Planet
Hollywood to not expect one of those "stuck
up, fluffly shows" . Angel and I did
not know what she actually meant so we just
nodded and sipped on our Cognacs. As we pulled into the parking lot of Planet
Hollywood, it was apparent we were not going
to make it by the crowd and Dark Embrace
instructed her driver to take us around to
the service entrance. Dark Embrace, although
highly popular in the Fashion elite, shuns
the limelight and prefers to be more of a
recluse than other designers we have met. I was confused when I entered Planet Hollywood
as I saw no stage or runway for the show
and frankly, it just looked like any of the
other Planet Hollywoods I had been to before.
Angel was obviously thinking the same thing
and whispered to me, "I thought we were
going to a Spring Fashion Show, WTF"?
I caught a
smirk coming
off Dark Embrace's
lips from the
corner of my
eye and wondered
what this creative
genius had
in store for
us. Dark Embrace told us she had some pre-show
details to tend to, dissapeared into the
crowd and left us waiting at the bar for
our drinks. it was painfully clear that we
would be standing for quite some time as
the club was jammed with what looked like,
just regular club patrons.
(continued
below)
After being hit on, smoozed and flirted with
by the sharks in the sea of people, Angel
and I saw a clear table and ran for it like
a bridesmaid after the bouquet at a wedding.
We barely beat out an overly tanned buxom
blond and a guy that looked alot like that
Sanjaya boy on American Idol. We ordered
some fresh drinks from a waitress that looked
vaguely familiar to both Angel and I and
listened to the house band that was playing
heavy rock by Ozzie Osbourne, the Scorpions
and Metallica. Just as the waitress brought our drinks,
the room went dark and quiet, which is like
really embarrassing when you are shouting
to be heard above the music. A blue glow
began to fill the room and a single slow
guitar rift wailed and held the crowds the
attention - but I still saw no place or runway
that would work for a fashion show. It was
freaking me out. Then it happened. Bright white spotlights
focused on each waitress in the club and
the band began to play, "Kick Start
my Heart" by Motley Crue. I then realized
where I had seen our waitress before. She
was one of the models I had seen doing a
video on MTV for Puff Daddy. As the band played, the waitresses got on
top of the table in their white school girl
blouses and began to dance, slowly unbuttoning
their tops. I was quite uncomfortable. Just
as each of the waitresses released the last
button and began to take their blouses off,
the lights turned to strobes and blacklights
making the waitress / models all but dissapear.
Well, all but Dark Embrace's new line of
Spring tops which were glowing from the black
light against a full head to toe black body
suit on each waitress. I have no idea how
they were able to put on the body suits so
quickly and dark Embrace later told me, it
was none of my business. Each waitress / model had a spotlight moment
as the band softened a tiny bit and the description
of each top was given. The crowd could not
get enough it. The hooted and hollered like
hillbillies at a hoedown. The crowd really liked the black designs
Dark Embrace has created for Spring and they
went totally insane over the yellows and
pastel tops made from a combination of silk
and satin.
We immediatly placed our order and gave it
to the runner to make sure we were not shut
out of getting one of these new tops. Dark
Embrace does not flood the market with her
designs and more often than not, there is
a waiting list for her more popular items.
Angel bought one of everything, I bought two of everything. After the show, Angel and I danced and mingled
with the crowd and wound up bumping into
Mela in the ladies room. She had come right
from the airport and we were too glad to
see her. After finishing up her business
for the night, Dark Embrace took us out on
the town and the last thing I remember is
listening to a man with an eye patch in a
bar called the Dying Bloom explain to me
that he was not a Pirate and for me to quit
saying "arrrrrgggghhh Captain"
to him. I woke up at noon the next morning
in my flannel jammies on backwards. CLICK HERE TO READ MORE> > > >
