Spring has Sprung (New Zealand)
by Crystal Angel Fashion Editor

- Jill Angel One took off from Myrtle Beach and headed to
Florida to pick up my Mom, Playing with Beads
and after refueling for the long flight to
the City of Sails, Auckland, New Zealand,
we were off. The nickname city of sails is
due to the fact Auckland has more boats per
capita than any other city in the world Mom had never been in a private jet before
and she was impressed. "Is this leather?"
"Are the cocktails free?" Yes to
both Mom. Mela was still in wooing Chuckie
the pilot and Angel relaxed and spent most
of her time making final notes on her Paris
Show and telling jokes. We all agreed, so
far this had been a very successful trip
and we were simply amazed at the creative
fashions coming out of the Fashion Houses
of Moove. We touched down at Auckland Airport and discovered
that Skye could not meet us due to last minute
details she was tending to for her Show later
that evening. Skye had sent us a waaay kewl
1935 Rolls Royce Windover Limo and the sweetest
driver, named Lester. Skye always does everything
with her own unique style and Lester, with
is adorable accent and delightful smile should
have come as no surprise. In the Maori language, Auckland is known
as Tamaki Makau Rau, the city of 100 lovers,
and Lester was sure to be one of them. He
treated each of us like we were Princesses
and the twinkle in his eye told us he had
a kind heart and enjoyed working for Skye. We loaded up into the limo (Mela stayed behind
to fly with Chuckie to the Australian mainland
where he had extensive family) and Mom, Angel
and I headed off to the 5-star SKYCITY Grand
Hotel where Skye had decided we should stay.
Upon entering our rooms, we each found a
HUGE bouquet of fresh flowers and a gift
basket filled with tasty delights from the
region. Alone with the items, was a note
from Skye with the schedule of events and
a sweet note reminding us that Auckland is
heading into Autumn and to dress accordingly. We decided we were all hungry and went to
the Terrace Restaurant for some breakfast.
The Terrace
breakfast restaurant
is a restful
haven where
guests can
refresh themselves
while taking
in the spectacular
view across
the outdoor
terrace to
Sky Tower, where Skye
was having
her show that
evening. We had made arrangements for Lester to pick
us up at 10:00 AM for a tour of the city
and hopefully a quick trip to one of New
Zealands world famous beaches. Lester arrived
promptly at 9:45 and after showering us with
flirty compliments (we melted) loaded up
in the Limo to see all we could in our short
stay in this paradise. Lester first took us to the Maori Concert
and Discovery Center, an imposing museum
building that stands in the Auckland Domain
on the rim of an ancient volcano surrounded
by parks and gardens. This Greek Revival-style
museum is known for its Maori artifacts,
the largest collection of its kind, including
rare portraits of Maori chiefs. Angel and
I had a blast at the Discovery Center - an
interactive children's activity center. Go
figure. We then asked Lester to take us to the most
beautiful place on the North Island, and
he turned around to look at us, smiled and
said" Well we are already here".
Lester and his charm melted us like butter
in the summer and he then took us to Albert
Park. Albert Park is a 15 acre extravaganza of
formal gardens, fountains, and statue-studded
lawns. It is a favorite for Aucklanders and
the park is built on the site of a garrison
from the 1840s and 1850s that was used to
protect settlers in their conflicts Maori
tribes. There are still remnants of its stone
walls (with rifle slits) behind university
buildings on the east side of the park.
. The three of us walked quietly among the
gardens and met a wonderful cross-section
of locals enjoying their "Central Park"
and all three of us were awestruck at the
beauty of the park and the hospitality of
the locals. After our trip to Albert Park, I asked Lester
if he would be willing to take us to a beach
so we could all put our foot in the waters
of the South Pacific. Lester smiled and said,
we are already on our way and proceeded to
drive us to Bethells Beach north of the city.
Unlike the crowds at Myrtle Beach, Bethells
was empty and the surf was roaring. I wish
it had been a tad bit warmer and I had a
surfboard cause the waves were rocking. I
have never surfed, but it does not look alot
different than snowboarding - which I am
an avid fan of. We walked quietly along the shore, not saying
a word. Idle conversation would only pollute
the sancity and special feel of this place.
Angel seemed to connect with Bethells more
than Mom and I and whispered to me, "OMG,
Tory, this is the most beautiful beach I
have ever been too". I nodded and squeezed
her hand. With the day dissapearing faster than any
of us wished, we headed back to the Limo
only to find that Lester had a folding table
with white linen table cloth and napkins
and a wonderful picnic lunch. We sat with
Lester and ate some tasty smelly cheese,
fresh fruit and summer sausage all washed
down with a locally made 2006 Lake Chalice
Sauvignon Blanc. I am not a big wine drinker
(uhm, Im still underage) but this was some
mighty tasty stuff. Lester told us that the
wine came from a winery called Lake Chalice
Wines which was named after a lake high in
the hills surrounding the Marlborough's Wairau
Plains. After my fourth glass, I got kinda
dizzy and decided I had drank enough of the
heavenly elixir.

Highlights from Skye's New Zealand Fashion
Show
On the way back to the city, I was still
dizzy, but Angel wanted to ride on a Trolley
back to the hotel and Lester graciously dropped
Angel and I off while Mom had him drive her
to our hotel. Mom felt as though Angel and
I had not been alone enough. She is too sweet.
The trolley ride made me even more dizzy
and I barely could stand up when we arrived
at our hotel. Skye and Mom were waiting for us when we arrived and each
of us changed quickly into our Skye Designer
Dresses. Mom wore a wonderful Floral silk design highlighted
with a simple pearl cross necklace while
Angel decided on a smashing light cotton
pastel floral with matching hat. Angel decided
at the last minute to leave the hat behind.
She accessorized her outfit with a simple
pearl necklace and matching bracelete. I
chose Skyes dark green and blue chiffon with
strap hose ( I really needed to shave my
legs) and a tiny bit gold with diamond earrings.
We looked just delicious, if I do say so
myself. We all jumped in the Windsor Limo
and headed off to the Sky Tower. Skyes show was to be held at the very top
of the Sky Tower in Orbit, a revolving restaurant
which had been set up for Skyes Spring Show.
The Sky Tower is the tallest building in
the Southern Hemisphere and is part of the
Sky City complex. The views are breathtaking. The setting was elegant with a relaxed atmosphere
and as the sun set over the view of Auckland,
the full room enjoyed King Crab legs, and
a warmed pumpkin and bocconcini tart topped
with a rocket and parmesan salad, served
with a baby cos salad with a parmesan and
garlic dressing. For dessert, Skye offered
the choices of hazelnut and apple crumble
with apple sorbet calvados sauceor a wonderful chocolate mousse cake with
Sichuan pepper sauce and caramelised hazelnuts.
I had both. With soft muted music by Emma Shapplin Skye
began her show with her Basic Black line
which, although we were touring Spring Shows,
was purrfect for the crowd. We had to keep
reminding ourselves that it is Autumn in
the Southern Hemisphere and that black is
an appropriate color year round. Although very understated, Skyes Rag Doll
Fashion House has a keen eye for what the
Moove lady wants and Skye delivered with
her solid black undergarments, her lavender
and black lace design and my favorite - her
black body suit with solid gold accents.
Angel's favorite was the matching black jacket
and skirt which would look fabulous on my
Angel.. Mom and I both noticed the brightly colored
finger nails and toenails on the models and
by checking the program notes, we learned
that Skye offers a line of polish and is
considering branching out into cosmetics.
Skye has also begun creating boots and her
first pair, a sexy thigh high rose pattern,
brought the crowd to their feet with applause.(continued
below)
Skye followed her Basic Black Line with her
totally hot Lingerie Line, showing the crowd in attendance that the
finest in Lingerie is coming out of Skye's
Rag Doll Fashion House. Her Lavender and
Black Orchid sets are as yummy as the Whitestone
brie with quince paste I was nibbling on
and her Black Lace Design with small rose
accents blew the audience away. The show
stopper during her lingerie portion of the
show was her Delicate White Lace Thong set
with matching Lace Heels. Attention to detail
is a trademark with Skye and this outfit
is as dainty as it is sexy. Skye followed her Lingerie set with her wildly
popular Mix and Match line which id dominated
by her unique use of precious and semi-precious
stones which are ground up and woven into
her top two outfits - a sexy and elegant
Black Onyx and a White Garnet and Diamond
chip thong with matching gloves and boots.
The crowd sttod up and applauded for nearly
10 minutes as the models strutted the rare
and sparkly creations. Also shown during the mix and match portion
was a lovely blue sparkle skirt and top that
had the look of a star filled night and the
twinkles from the crushed blue topaz filled
the room. Next came Skyes line of Black Suede with
solid gold accents in five styles and I have
never seen such an abundant use of solid
gold from any designer. All five styles have
an almost Egyptian Queen feel and look and
are purrfect for any evening function. This
fashion editor suggests buying the whole
set for a complete wardrobe that will turn
heads whereever you go. Skye closed her show with the most beautiful
pastel pink chiffon design that screams SPRING!,
which also comes in five yummy styles. The
crowd could not get enough. Available in
a bra and panty set, a pair of silk lined
bell bottoms with matching jacket, a skirt
and blouse set and two body suits - the Pink
Chiffon line should be in every Moove ladies
closet. As was the case with her Black Suede
Line, we strongly suggest purchasing the
whole set for a wonderful mix and match base
color for this Spring. The show lasted late into the evening and
after sachmoozing with the local Fashion
Elite, the three of us decided it best to
head back to our Hotel and get a good nights
rest for the long flight to Amsterdam the
next morning. Skye had shown us New Zealand, an amazing
array of fashion, and first rate hospitality.
As we exited the old limo, we each gave Lester
a hug, a kiss, and a $800.00 tip with an
invite to come and visit us in Moove anytime.
Thank you Skye for a simply wonderful time.
