Spring has Sprung (Paris)
by Crystal Angel Fashion Editor We arrived at The Charles de Gaulle Airport
around 8:00 pm our time and Angel and I took
the Limo the seventeen miles to the Hotel
Ritz Paris. Mela stayed behind since her
and the Pilot, Chuckie, seemed to have hit
it off quite well. We were awestruck at the elegance of the
Ritz Paris - with its tradition, prestige,
and a legendary past that sets the Ritz Paris
apart from other Paris palace hotels. Located on the beautiful Place Vendome, the
Paris Ritz is in the heart of downtown Paris,
within walking distance to many historical
monuments and fashionable shopping areas.
Among the elegantly appointed rooms and suites
are ten renowned specialty suites, including
the Coco Chanel, Windsor, and Imperial. We had reserved the Coco Chanel Suite and
the Ritz Paris was by far the priciest Hotel
we had stayed at throughout our Fashion Show
Tour. But both Angel and I felt we deserved
it. Angel and I had a cocktail at the Bar Cambon
in the Ritz and then ate at the L'Espadon restaurant. Exhausted from our trip, we
decided to avoid the lure of the famous Paris
night life and enjoy the sumptuous room with
the most amazing view overlooking the lights
of the city. While it is true, Angel plays a major part
in the manufacturing of her designs, the
Fashion Show is all handled by the Paris
office of Angels Boutique, which afforded
Angel and I to hit the shops, sidewalk cafes
and head over to the Rive Gauche to see the
Eiffel Tower. It was just too romantic. After visiting and shopping the Montmartre
district of Paris, we decided we better freshen
up before
heading down
to the Espace
Richelieu, where
Angels Spring
show was to
happen.
The staff at
Angel's Boutique
Paris had decided
the traditional
limo arrival
was too bland
for us, and we traded our Cadillac Limo for a wonderful
white Excalibur. The ride to the show made
me feel like I was a Princess in a Fairy
tale as the evening lights of Paris began
to twinkle. We arrived promptly at 7:30 pm amid a crowd
of paparazzi and always the cossumate friend
to her fans, Angel stopped to sign some autographs
as the flash of cameras continued. Angel's Show was more of a informal (although
elegant), gathering than the other shows
we hit on our tour and the food was simply
wonderful. After socializing with the Paris Fashion
elite for about an hour, we were led to our
seats to see what Angel had in store for
us. Unlike some of the more themed shows we had
enjoyed on our tour, Angel's show focused
on the actual fashions and the innovative
fabrics as opposed to a fantastic light show
as we saw at Litas or the casual and fun
Beach Party we attended at Dark Embrace's
show..
In this years line, Angel has avoided the
usual bold and bright colors of Spring and
continues to offer both pastels and blacks
to her growing list of celebrity fans. Angel
explained that she believes the darker colors
offer her customers a way to dress for Spring
while continuing to elegantly attend black
tie events in the evening.

Select Fashions From Angel's Paris Show
Angel uses a unique cotton and hemp blend
exclusive to her designs, that holds dyes
in a richer tone and, according to Angel,
lasts longer and flows much more fluid than
many other fabrics on the market today. Angel
says, it is this fabric that allows her to
offer darker colors for Spring - "It's
the fabric that allows these designs to work
for Spring as well as Summer", states
Angel. "It pushes out the patterns and
colors in almost 3d effect while allowing
the fabric to breath", she adds. In another trend-breaking move, the Paris
branch of Angel's Boutique locates regular
people off the street to walk the runway.
No purging models for this fast growing fashion
house. As the first model entered wearing the Red
Jewel skirt and top set, it was apparent
by the round of applause and the ohh and
ahhhs, that Angel had once again hit the
target. In the purest white "original fabric",
the skirt and top are basic and would go
unnoticed except for the addition of genuine
ruby and red garnet trim and dangles. This
simple and elegant outfit is purrfect for
a visit to the Boutique, a romantic tea or
in the stands at Wimpledon. Buyers from around
the world in attendance at the show quickly
grabbed up the entire inventory on hand and
Angel relaxed in her chair. Angel not only sells her designs in Moove
and at her two Boutiqes, but offers all of
her creations to wholesale buyers from around
the globe - but at retail prices. Angel told
me she has seen her designs for sale in London
for as much as $7000.00. It is this clever
approach to marketing that allows Angel to
sell her designs in Moove for a fraction
of the price found elsewhere. As Angel and I munched on pastries provided
by pâtissier Maurice from Douceur de France,
we watched as each of her outfits (with the
exception of two) sold out. In between bites
of Tarte Tatin (a carmalized apple in flaky
dough) and Strawberry Choux Cream (a pastry
filled with light vanilla cream and strawberrys)
it was clear that buyers from Saudi Arabia
to Dallas could not get enough of her designs
and Angel could not have been happier. (Continued

Angel closed her show with her jumpsuits
and it was obvious that whites are a hot
color for Spring. The crowd gave a standing
ovation when the last model hit the runway
in Angels gorgeous Pure Essence jump suit.
The folks at Angels Boutique Paris had saved
the best for last. Once again using her "original fabric",
the Pure Essence Design is breathtaking.
The top is embroidered with gray silk in
what one buyer described as "influenced
by the simplicity of Native Americans".
Angel confided in me that it takes almost
two miles of rare silk found only in central
China to complete just one top. It is this
abundant use that gives the top the feathery,
soft look Adding to the American Indian influence
is the choker and arm bands which use the
same silk embroidery to create a soft beaded look.
The slacks are pure white with gray silk
highlights and are lined in a gray Silk Damask.
From this fashion divas standpoint, the Pure
Essence Jumpsuit is the finest work Angel
has ever created. Angel then took the podium and thanked everyone
for attending while giving special recognition
Givenchy, Lloyd Klein, Franck Sorbier, and members of the Karl Lagerfeld family who had taken time out from their busy schedules
to attend the show. As the buyers enjoyed fine French Bordeaux
and small crepes, the Fashion Elite accompanied
by Angel and myself jumped in the awaiting
limos and headed to dinner at the famed Pierre Gagnaire Restaurant. Angel ordered for me since I do not speak
or even read French and I had no idea what
I ate, but I do know it was like my mouth
had died and gone to heaven. Angel did tell
me it was a dish made from lamb and it reminded
me alot of a Lamb Tajine dish I ate on my
last trip to the region. I think I gained
30 pounds from the combination of Angels
yummy pastries and my mystery lamb dish.
I skipped dessert. After dinner Angel and I said our goodbyes
to our guests and told our Limo driver to
take us to the most happening and hottest
dance club in the city. We sped through the streets of Paris until
we stopped in front of the Elysée Montmartre
Club on Rochechouart Boulevard. Upon entering
the packed club (Angel always gets to enter
through the VIP entrance), cirKus was rocking
the house. Since our tour was finished and our work
done, Angel and I decided to let our hair
down, so to speak, and hit the dance floor
and the bar more times than we could count.
Frankly, after a March that offered both
us of a armful of challenges and a setback
or two, dancing the night away in Paris with
my Angel is just what we both needed before
our long flight home the next day. We got back to the hotel at 5:30 AM and with
the jet leaving at 11:30, we packed and then
crawled into bed for a few hours rest. As
I dozed off, I realized that neither Angel
nor I had any idea where my Mom (who we dropped
off in Amsterdam) or Mela (who romanced Chuckie,
our pilot) might be. I chuckled as I snuggled
up to Angel and fell asleep as the Paris
morning broke.
