We learn the hard way that more money means
more risk
I MADE $5000 IN A MONTH USING THIS NEW AND
IMPROVED ...BLAH BLAH BLAH. We have all heard it or seen the "CRAZY
AS A FOX" commercials on the television
with happy couples basking in the Hawaiin
sun - claiming to have made enough money
online to send all 5 kids to Yale. Of course
at the bottom of the screen it says in little
teeny weenie letters - not actual earnings
or some other thing. Making money on the Internet is not easy
and honestly, it is full of dangers and even
some fly-by-night companies. But it is not
just the dishonest that can leave you feeling
like you have been ripped off - even the
most respectable companies have policies
or agreements that can vaporize your hard
work in an instant. Google Adsense is one
of these. Google Adsense:
Google Adsense allows web site owners to
offer advertisements based on what your web
site (or web page) is about. If you are running
a music site, Google Adsense will show music
ads. It is a thing called Content Driven
advertising and nobody does it better than
Google. Website owners make money each time someone
clicks on the advertisement, although no
one really knows how Google tracks the clicks.
It is a trade secret. The Crystal Angel used Google adsense since
we started the magazine and made a little
money here and there - enough for Mela and
I to buy domain names and even a bit extra
for Christmas last year. Since we did not
need the money right away, we decided to
keep it in Google Adsense until the amount
reached $500.00. You have the option when
you sign up for Google to be paid when your
money reaches a certain amount. We also tested out several other advertising
companies (Adbrite, Yahoo, Linkshare and
Commission Junction). Google did the best
by far, bringing our Adsense Bank to almost
$400.00 at the beginning of last month. This
is real money, not CC's. I was getting happy when all of a sudden
I got an email from Google stating that we
had violated our agreement and they were
taking our earnings and closing our account.
I was shocked and followed all the links
in the email to ask for a reason and to appeal.
I found the form to appeal and followed the
instructions with a promise that I would
hear back within 48 hours. I have never heard
back. So to this day, I do not know if there
were invalid clicks, they did not like my
content, or what is could be. That is the
most frustrating part....after losing all
of our money. Does this make Google Adsense a bad idea?
Of course not, but I do urge you to get your
payout at the minimum amount of $100.00 to
avoid losing your earnings. Google states
they do not have to let you know why they
take your money or close your account. We
still suggest Google Adsense as a profitable
way to earn money from your site, but please
make sure you read the fine print when you
sign up. I have listed the top advertising programs
that can earn you money from your web site.
Using Google as a base of 100, each is given
a score for Earnings Potential, Dashboard
and Risk. Adbrite:
Earnings: 20 out of 100
Dashboard: 80 out
of 100
Risk: No Risk 0 out
of 100 Adbrite will not get you rich fast, or even
slow for that matter. It does slowly trickle
in a $1.00 here and there, but the longer
you keep using Adbrite, the more each advertiser
will pay per click. This program is really
geared for sites that get a lot of hits.
The kewl thing about Adbrite is they offer
several different ways to display advertising
(full page, BritePic, Video ads, etc). If
you are just starting out and want to learn
about advertising on your web site, this
is a great program.

Earnings: 60 out of 100
Dashboard: 90 out

Risk: Teenie Risk 10 out of 100
This is a great affiliate program with thousands
of well-known merchants. You sign up once
and then you can apply to any of the merchants
and companies. Do you run an art site? Why
not offer art supplies as well. Do you have
an information site on where you live? Why
not try to offer vacation packages? With
Commission Junction you can choose either
links to a company or even to individual
products. You earn a commission on each sale
and not from each click. The bonus is, that
you can buy from yourself and get a rebate
in the form of a commission. There is a risk
that if you sign up and are accepted by a
company, that before you get paid they may
file bankruptcy. This just happened to Mrs
Fields cookies (can you even friggin believe
it). Click here to sign up at Commission Junction for free. Linkshare.com
Earnings: 60 out of 100
Dashboard: 90 out
of 100
Risk: Teenie Risk 10 out of 100
Linkshare is very much like Commission Junction,
with different advertisers. If you are interested
in selling products from or linking to Walmart,
Macy's, CompUSA, AT&T, Avon or Radio
Shack - Linkshare is for you. It is also
the easiest to use and even a beginner can
add the code to a web page.
Linkshare also offers data feeds and advanced
linking to those that want to get even more
creative in merchandising products or companies.
There are others: Yahoo, Clicksor and Chitika
that we are testing now to see how they work....and
of course we are watching our $1.00 Voting
Board to see how we do with that silly idea.
LOL. So, no matter what your web site is about
or what you use it for, there is always an
opportunity to make a small bit of extra
money, and these days every little bit helps.
No, you will not get rich or drive Rolls
Royces unless you come up with a new and
unique way to advertise, market or offer
a new service. Making money on the Internet
takes just as much patience and hard work
as it does to make money in real. you just
get to sit down and work in your jammies
while you do it. LOL. So who won the Google vs Adbrite Rumble?
Google by a narrow decision. If you can insure
that all the small print on the agreement
is followed then you can make some nice moola,
but it does require daily checking of your
stats and clicks. But like anything in the
world, the more you work at it, the better
the payoff.
