There is nothing that makes us ladies feel
as good as a trip to the spa
One of the things that boyz do not really
understand is how hard we girls work at looking
pretty and
gorgeous for them. While we may be pretty
everyday, nothing
makes us FEEL prettier
than a trip to the
spa.
In these days of hecticity (I made that word
up), people are spending
more time and more
money at the spa.
In 2006, more than
100 million people
visited
a spa, up 10% from
2005, according to
Spafinder.com,
the online spa directory.
This year, more than 150 million people will
relax and beautify at a spa - and it's not
just $100 massages they're picking from the menu.
Try a $5,000 bottled water bath and rubdowns
by three pairs of hands.
In our travels into the Real World, I have
enjoyed two wonderful
spa treatments. Once
in Cambodia at the
Orient Express Resort
and one with my Aunties
at the Mandalay Bay
in Las Vegas. Both
were simply scrumptious
and I am now addicted.
A visit to the spa need not break your wallet
(boyz should really pay for all of our trips
to the spa), but if you are looking for the
very best and the most expensive spa treatments,
we have listed the very best the Real World has to offer (with
the help of Forbes Magazine).
Some of these treatments, when the airfare
and hotel cost are
added in, can exceed
the
price of a fine diamond
or a 700 pound box
of chocolates - but
honestly, can you
think
of a better way to
say, "I Love
You"
than sending your
sweetie to be pampered
by the very best
the World has to
offer?
I thought the spa at the Mandalay Bay was
the Queen of the
Spas, but after looking
over the following
spa treatments, I realized
that although the
five hour treatment at
the Mandalay was
WOO HOO, it did not rank
up there with the
most expensive.
a
Evian Bath Spa V at Hotel Victor--South Beach, Fla.
$5,000
Available exclusively to guests staying in
the hotel's penthouse,
this bath is filled
with 1,000 bottles
of Evian water (nearly
350 gallons) and
sprinkled with rose petals.
Also on the menu? A bottle of champagne,
a slice of Seven Sins of Chocolate dessert
from the hotel's restaurant and two spa treatments.
The Art of Indulgence Mandarin Oriental--New York
$1,034
This five-hour treatment consists of an Oriental
Harmony rubdown--during which two aestheticians
massage your skin with essential oils like
ylang ylang and sweet orange--and an Awaken
facial, a reviving treatment that involves
an upper-body and facial massage that helps
to increase circulation. The session is followed with an exfoliating,
paraffin wax manicure and pedicure.
Grand Luxe Facial
Spa Radiance--San
Francisco, Calif.
$750
This three-hour long facial incorporates
Diamond Peel Microdermabrasion and Purikiss
Microcurrent Disencrustation; the latter
helps remove blackheads, brown spots and
sebum deposits. Next, the skin is steamed while covered in
an Italian herb healing mask, followed by
a warm enzyme exfoliating hand treatment,
a caviar eye treatment, hand softening protein
drops and LED light therapy that promises
to help heal years of sun damage and irritations
from skin conditions like rosacea.
Better have an afternoon to spend being pampered
here. The full-body treatment begins with a warm
bath and an all-over sugar body polish. A blend of clay and herbal tonics are then
massaged into your scalp, followed by a massage
and time in the private steam room. Then comes the hotel's signature marine facial
treatment, which uses sea minerals and algae
to balance the complexion, keeping oily skin
in check and soothing dryer skin.
Opt for this one hour and 50-minute full-body
treatment, and you'll find two massage therapists
waiting to work on you. The procedure begins with a foot bath that
promises to release toxins from tired feet.
Then, therapists use a warm exfoliator that
promises to smooth and replenish moisture
in the skin, followed by a synchronized massage
where the head and feet are rubbed simultaneously.
This two and a half hour treatment combines
a foot soak and body
massage, Thermes Marins
Crystal Peeling (which
is similar to microdermabrasion)
and an ocean splash
rose bath using petals
from 500 red roses.
This all takes place in a private treatment
room with glass walls that provide a 280-degree
view of the Indian Ocean.
Microablation and Triphasic Combination Facial
Cornelia Day Spa--New
York
$500
A popular treatment with the post-plastic-surgery
crowd, this facial
incorporates microblation.
During the procedure, aestheticians wave
an electromagnetic wand over the skin to
stimulate collagen, minimize lines, reduce
acne and ease chronic irritation. Next, the
triphasic resonator, another wand-like tool,
uses heat, vibration and therapeutic electrical
force to contour and sculpt the face.
24-Carat Gold Facial Eldorado Hotel and Spa--Santa Fe, N.M.
$475
Many aestheticians believe gold contains
an anti-aging element, and at the Eldorado
Spa, they're so confident that gold-flecked
serum lifts, tightens, lightens and brightens
skin while reducing the appearance of fine
lines and wrinkles, they'll devote 80 minutes
to massaging it into your face and back.
Other benefits are said to include the slowdown
of collagen depletion, which causes sagginess;
a decrease in inflammation; and a lightening
of age spots.
Six Hands Lava Stone Massage
Grand Wailea Resort
Hotel and Spa--Maui,
Hawaii
$450
Hot stone massages are fairly ordinary, but
it's rare to have three therapists using
them on you at once. But that's what happens at Grand Wilea, where
clients are rubbed by six hands for nearly
an hour.
Crème de La Mer Facial Urban Retreat at Harrods--London
$305
Crème de La Mer is one of the priciest cosmetics
on the market, so it's no wonder spa treatments
that utilize it are in to the ultra-expensive
tier.
For an hour and a half, La Mer lovers experience
a facial that includes exfoliation--with
sea quartz and pure diamond dust--and Crème
de la Mer miracle broth massaged into the
face, which promises softer, smoother and
suppler skin.
The facial is followed by a hand massage
and a reflexology massage on the feet.
